Frequently asked questions
The obligation to conduct a double materiality assessment depends on the reporting obligations of CSRD. More details can be found on our blog article about CSRD.
A double materiality assessment conducted in an audit-proof way begins with a phase of project planning and preparation, including stakeholder involvement and analysis of the value chain. A list of potentially relevant sustainability issues is then drawn up and the associated impacts, risks, and opportunities (IROs) are formulated. These are evaluated on the basis of predefined criteria, resulting in a list of material IROs.
The assessment of the IROs can be documented in Sunhat. Our team is available to advise on the preparatory steps with its expertise.
With the ID 177 document, EFRAG has provided guidance for mapping the material sustainability topics to the disclosure requirements (DRs) of the ESRS. This allows the data points to be reported to be automatically filtered in Sunhat based on the results of the materiality assessment. More details on this in our blog: EFRAG ID 177.
The materiality assessment is the basis for determining the key sustainability topics for your company and therefore the data points to be reported. If the auditor does not accept the materiality assessment, large parts of the KPIs to be reported may need to be adjusted.
Yes, the ESRS prescribes an annual update of the double materiality assessment, but significantly fewer resources are required for this than in the first year.
